- Todd Archer of ESPN reports that Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith will play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. Smith was the Cowboys’ second-round pick in 2016 and has yet to see game action while he recovers from a serious knee injury.
- Smith was a top PFF prospect of the 2016 draft class before suffering his catastrophic knee injury. He was one of the most productive FBS players on the field during the 2015 season, earning an 89.3 overall grade and ranking third among 4-3 outside linebackers.
- In 2015 Smith displayed his versatility as he was effective defending the run, rushing the passer, and in coverage. Among Power 5 4-3 outside linebackers, Smith ranked ninth in run-stop percentage (9.5 percent), eighth in pass-rush productivity (19.2), and 15th in yards per cover snap (0.59).
