Clay Matthews is looking much better in 2017

  • Following a 2016 season in which he earned a 46.6 overall grade, which ranked 96th among edge defenders, Clay Matthews has played much better through the first three weeks of 2017. Matthews currently ranks 16th among edge defenders with an 83.6 overall grade.
  • Matthews struggled in both run defense and as a pass-rusher last year, earning grades of 41.8 and 52.4 in those two areas, respectively. Through three weeks of 2017 he owns a 79.3 pass-rush grade and an 85.5 run-defense grade.
  • Matthews ranked 93rd among edge defenders in 4.1 run-stop percentage in 2016, he currently ranks 38th among edge defenders with a 7.0 run-stop percentage. Matthews had just six run stops last season, he’s already tallied four in 2017.
