Chargers WR Mike Williams expects to make his debut this week
- Los Angeles Chargers’ first-round wide receiver Mike Williams has told reporters that he expects to finally make his debut in the team’s Week 6 game against the Oakland Raiders. Williams missed all of training camp, preseason and the first five regular season games due to the back injury he suffered in May.
- Williams was selected with the seventh-overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft after a stellar final season at Clemson, where he ended the year ranked eighth of 510 wide receivers with a PFF overall grade of 89.4.
- He was incredibly productive in his final year and hauled in 79 catches from 85 catchable targets for 1110 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. His average of 3.48 yards per route run ranked seventh among 112 draft-eligible wide receivers with at least 50 targets.
- Williams was effective as a deep threat in 2016 and caught 53.8 percent of the deep targets thrown his way, good for fourth among 64 FBS wide receivers with at least 25 deep targets. If he returns injury-free, he could help take advantage of a Raiders secondary that has allowed 238 yards on deep passes so far this season, the league’s eighth worst mark.
