  • The Arizona Cardinals have named Blaine Gabbert their starting quarterback for their Week 11 game against the Houston Texans. Gabbert will replace veteran signal-caller Drew Stanton, who is reportedly dealing with a sprained knee.
  • Stanton took the reins for the Cardinals’ offense in Week 7, after starter Carson Palmer left the game with a broken arm. In his time in relief, Stanton has been particularly underwhelming, and has posted just one game grade above 70.0 (average). A big reason for this is Stanton’s apparent issues with accuracy. Through his four games, Stanton’s adjusted completion percentage (the PFF metric that shows accuracy) of 61.9 percent ranks 33rd of 34 quarterbacks with at least 50 pass attempts in that span.
  • Gabbert will now step in, after an impressive showing for the team in the preseason, in which Gabbert logged 67 pass attempts and ended the preseason campaign ranked 29th among quarterbacks with an adjusted completion percentage of 76.6 percent, bettering the marks of both Stanton (66.7) and Palmer (64.7).
  • Gabbert has also shown the potential to give the team a slight upgrade in performance under pressure. On their respective pressured attempts since 2015, both Gabbert’s passer rating of 49.7 and completion percentage of 46.0 percent better Stanton’s marks of 31.5 and 29.3 percent.
