49ers sign defensive linemen McDaniel and Douzable

  • The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they have signed veteran defensive linemen Tony McDaniel and Leger Douzable.
  • Twelve year veteran McDaniel started 39 games across three of the last four seasons for 49ers NFC West rivals the Seattle Seahawks, with one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in between.
  • During his time in Seattle, McDaniel was particularly effective against the run. In 2013 McDaniel ranked fourth out of 80 qualifying defensive tackles with run-stop percentage of 9.0 percent (total number of run stops — runs that constitute a loss for the offense — divided by the number of run snaps played).  In 2016 McDaniel had a run stop percentage of 10.2 percent which ranked ninth.
  • Douzable, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2008, spent the 2016 season with the Buffalo Bills, whereby he participated in 44.7 percent of their defensive snaps, the highest snap percentage of his career.
  • He also demonstrated ability against the run, recording 21 stops in the run game, and his run-stop percentage of 9.5 percent ranked fourth among 44 qualifying 3-4 defensive ends.
