Each week I’ll comb through the options at each position to bring you my picks for the players with the best combination of safety and upside over a wide price range. These are guys you’ll use in cash games for the most part, but there’s nothing wrong with slotting a couple into your tournament lineups as well for stability.
Situations that I love but that I’m not going to write up because they’re almost too obvious: Todd Gurley $5000, Devonta Freeman $7900, and the Arizona Cardinals pass game (Carson Palmer $6700, Larry Fitzgerald $7400, John Brown $5500, and Michael Floyd $3600). Use any of these guys with confidence.
Quarterback
Philip Rivers $6500: Rivers is leading the league in passing yards by a fairly wide margin. The run game with Melvin Gordon has been ineffective thus far, and despite a depleted receiving corps, Rivers has been getting it done through the air. He has over 300 yards (for the bonus) in four of his six games this season, including the last three weeks. Monitor the status of Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates, but I expect both to play Sunday. At home vs. Oakland, who is rated a bottom 5 pass coverage unit by PFF, expect Rivers to keep it going. He’s usable in all formats at this price.
