Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 14
It’s Tuesday, and this is the place where you’ll find out about under-owned players and the week’s hottest pickups. I’ve included 18 players in this article for you to consider, and if you’re juggling defenses based on the matchups, I have three D/ST units to recommend to you for this week that are available in more than half of leagues.
Notes: Scoring is standard non-PPR. Ownership percentages are based on Yahoo leagues as of Tuesday morning at 12:30 AM Eastern Time. FAAB values are listed as a percentage of your season budget and are based on a standard, 12-team league with 15 roster spots. Use my values as a starting point and adjust them to fit your league size and the tendencies of your competitors. If a player does not have a FAAB value, it means that I’m recommending that you pick him up as a free agent after waivers clear. Within each section the players are listed in the order that I’d pick them up.
These players are already on most fantasy radars, but they need to be owned in significantly more leagues. Either due to impressive performances or increased opportunities, the values of these players are on the rise. If your league is small, has shallow benches, or is filled with checked-out managers who have given up on the season, then you might be lucky enough to stumble across one of these guys on your waiver wire.
Chris Givens (STL – WR): 14% Owned, 19% of FAAB
Until Sunday’s game against the 49ers, the rookie out of Wake Forest had mostly shown signs of fantasy relevance as a deep threat. With Danny Amendola sidelined, he showed some versatility with 92 yards and 11 catches on 14 targets.
Givens has averaged 9.9 fantasy points per game over his last seven games and has more fantasy points on the year than any other Rams receiver. When Amendola is healthy enough to finish a game, he’s still the Rams pass-catcher that you want, but Givens is worth flex consideration in the Rams’ remaining matchups against the Bills, Vikings, and Buccaneers. If Amendola misses more time, make sure that Givens is in your starting lineup.
Brandon Myers (OAK – TE): 53% Owned, 15% of FAAB
Myers had 14 catches, 130 yards, and a touchdown in a fantastic trash-time performance against the Browns on Sunday. He leads tight ends in fantasy scoring over the last five weeks and ranks fifth on the season. Unless you have Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzalez, or Aaron Hernandez, you need to pick Myers up and start him for the rest of the year. He has an especially good matchup this week against the Broncos, who seem to have a serious blind spot when it comes to covering tight ends.
Before this week’s games, these players were on the fringe of fantasy relevance in standard-sized leagues. They should be the hottest additions of the week.
