PFF Week: Out West, Week 13

PFF-Week-Out-WestIt’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Out West' edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC West divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.

All West teams fighting just to make the playoffs, with the exception of the Raiders, pulled out a victory last week to stay alive for a wild card berth. The Rams and Cardinals blew a pair of decent teams out of the building while the Chargers came up with their best win of the year in Arrowhead Stadium. Denver couldn't pull off back-to-back Sunday Night Football wins as they lost in OT to the Pats while Colin Kaepernick posted another strong game against a bad defense. Let's review and preview all of the NFL action.

Week 12 Wrap

It was a solid week for the West divisions as they combined to post a 4-3 record and one of those losses came in the Chargers-Chiefs tilt. By far, the most impressive performance in Week 12 among all players was the Rams' Robert Quinn as he was single-handedly responsible for a whopping 11 pressures. Another NFC West team that's been playing well as of late is the Arizona Cardinals and one of the reasons they've played well is the emergence of second-year WR Michael Floyd who graded very well on Sunday against the Colts. Though the Broncos lost late, they did get great games out of offensive linemen Manny Ramirez and Louis Vasquez. Read about all of that and more in our ReFocused articles including the one for the Raiders-Cowboys Thanksgiving game.

The aforementioned Manny Ramirez was tabbed as one of Week 12's Secret Superstars by our Gordon McGuinness for his great game against the Patriots. In his latest Analysis Notebook, Sam Monson breaks down the development of perhaps the league's next great pass rusher: the Rams' Robert Quinn. Speaking of pass rushing, Rick Drummond put out a good piece this week on Pass Rushing Productivity, a Signature Stat that I think is one of our best. The piece identifies the PRP of units like a team's 3-4 OLBs or 4-3 DEs.

Nathan Jahnke uses this week's 32 Observations to create an All-Pro team, it's definitely worth a look. The Week 12 Power Rankings feature the Seahawks as each expert's top team. PFF's Team of Week 12 features a pair of West pass rushers in Quinn and Denver's Von Miller. The Chiefs' defense did not have its best game on Sunday and the ‘Had a Bad Day' Team reflects that with two Kansas City players making the squad. Tyrann Mathieu and Keenan Allen continue to have strong rookie seasons and both remain in the Top 10 in our Race for Rookie of the Year, Week 12.

Looking Ahead to Week 13

With the bye weeks over, we'll have full slates of 16 games from now until the end of the season. The AFC wild card berth is nearly available to every team not named “Jacksonville Jaguars” or “Houston Texans,” while every team in the NFC West has at least a semi-realistic shot at the playoffs as well. This uncertainty should make for a lot of intriguing football until the very end. We will definitely have good football this week with Broncos-Chiefs Round 2 and the Saints-Seahawks game in Seattle. Here are the Week 13 previews.
