It’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Out West' edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC West divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.
Week 9 Wrap
At this point in time of the year teams are what they are, with the deeper and better constructed units withstanding the grind of a season that is just halfway over. While the AFC and NFC West are bastions of talent this year even they can have a tough time of it. Last week was a prime example with the Seahawks having to rally from 21 points down to force overtime at home against the Buccaneers. The Rams had a bit of a letdown after their close loss the week before on Monday Night Football and the Titans cashed in with a victory over them. The Chargers were just a foot away from winning their matchup against Washington in regulation but opted for a field goal that led to an overtime loss. Sometimes when it rains, it pours and that was the case for the Raiders who were overwhelmed by the aerial onslaught of the Eagles last week. The Chiefs went into their bye with an undefeated record but scored zero offensive touchdowns on the road against the Bills in doing so. Even with these games being tightly contested both ways the fact remains that four of the top six franchises in the PFF Power Rankings come from the AFC and NFC West. Even in the Race for Rookie of the Year, Week 9 by Khaled Elsayed the talent is plain to see with four of the top ten candidates hailing from these two divisions. The PFF Team of the Week admittedly wasn’t stocked with representatives though and it’s not a surprise after last week’s effort where most of the players on the ‘Had a Bad Day’ Team came from. This week’s 32 Observations by Nathan Jahnke highlighted what the 2012 draft class has produced in some aspect for each team. Meanwhile, the Secret Superstars by Gordon McGuinness put one offensive and three defensive players on the podium for their efforts. Palazzolo’s Pitch for Week 9 brings into focus in game adjustments that a few players have made which has separated them from others in certain situations this year. With half the season completed its’ time to debut the PFF Mid-Season awards which includes injured players who did very well through this part of the season. This includes a PFF All-Pro team as well as a team for each division in the NFL. Also not to be forgotten is the AFC and NFC Stock reports by Ben Stockwell which trends which players on each team have seen their level of play rise and fall over the second stanza of four weeks in the season. There is also a special Third Phase edition by Neil Hornsby featuring the top special teams player from each franchise so far this year. Each of these awards are listed below for your convienence.

Looking Ahead to Week 10
It’s now time to focus on getting into position for playoff spots and getting every last bit of talent onto the field to make the big push. Can the Seahawks push past their offensive line issues to get a revenge win against the Falcons from last year’s playoff loss? Can Jeff Fisher throw a wrench into the Colts plans for snaring the AFC South title? How well with the Cardinals fare at home off their bye week against the Texans? The 49ers also come back from their break with a chance to show the Panthers just what it means to play smash mouth football vs. a foe that can handle itself. The Broncos get to matchup against the Chargers in a battle of elite quarterbacks with Peyton Manning vs. Philip Rivers. Can the Raiders put last week’s loss behind them as they go out to the East Coast to take on the rested Giants?
