PFF Week: Down South, Week 6

PFF-Week-Down-SouthIt’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Down South’ edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC South divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.

Week 5 Wrap

Week 5 featured the Colts beating another preseason favourite from the NFC West in the only win for the AFC South. The NFC South fared little better, the Saints providing the sole win, although the Buccaneers week off means the NFC took just the two losses, while matching the AFC's record of 0-1 in prime time games.

The AFC South did manage to outshine the NFC South on the PFF Team of the Week, having three defenders named starters while the NFC South could only manage two honourable mentions, which the AFC even bested with four. The AFC South also had more starters named for another PFF Team. Unfortunately it was the Had a Bad Day” team, where they had three starters to go along with seven dishonorable mentions, while the NFC South had just two players named starter. The Race for Rookie of the Year continued and the NFC South features three players in the top 10, although Star Lotulelei with an average week back from the bye has started to slip down the order. Neil Hornsby also put the players who don't get the appreciation they should, under the spotlight in The Third Phase. While no AFC or NFC South player has managed to make it to the top spot, they have featured in the top five each week, with another two coming in this week.

Our team have been taking a look back over a slightly longer time frame with more than a quarter of the season now passed and Khaled Elsayed ranked each teams offensive lines so far this season. The Jaguars were the lowest ranked AFC South team in 30th, while the lowest ranked NFC south team, the Falcons, weren't much higher at 28th. Where did the rest of the South teams end up?

Michael Renner also looked back over the season so far, though he used our Signature Statistics database. He has taken a look at how the quarterbacks rank in our Accuracy Percentage, which feature a couple of South quarterbacks at the bottom, with another two near the top.

Looking to Week 6

Week 6 features another prime time game for the AFC South, with three road trips to likely playoff participants among the games featuring South teams. With just one bye week and no division games, you have seven games to prepare for and our team have helped you out with Three to Focus on for each game.
