PFF Roundup - Week 5

Jeremy-Maclin

Every week I look around PFF Main content and features to see what fantasy insight we can take away to help owners going forward. This week we’re reviewing two of the highest-scoring players in 2014, along with some running backs who fantasy owners have plenty of questions about.

Foles going deep

Steve Palazzolo was not impressed by Nick Foles' play in Week 4 against the 49ers. Palazzolo wrote in his Eagles-49ers ReFo that he saw a fidgety Foles in the pocket. The Eagles quarterback allowed pressure to get to him, adding to his inconsistency.

It was arguably the worst game we've seen from Foles as a pro, but his accuracy has been an issue throughout the first four weeks. Another observation from Jahnke, Foles has attempted 39 passes of 20-plus yards. That's 17 more than the next quarterback in the same category. Foles has only completed 10 of those throws, though.

In 2013, Foles completed 45.5 percent of those throws (25 completions) for 803 yards and 14 touchdowns. Fantasy owners would see a huge boost in production if Foles could hone in on more of these targets.

Jeremy Maclin is the main beneficiary of the deep passing game in Philadelphia. Of Maclin's 45 targets in 2014, 19 of them have been 20 or more yards downfield. He only has three receptions on those targets. Last season DeSean Jackson caught 16-of-33 deep throws for 553 yards and eight touchdowns.

Maclin has scored the sixth-most fantasy points among wide receivers in 2014. Off to a great start, it's scary to think what could happen if he and Foles start connecting more downfield. He's easily a WR1.
