16.00 – Raiders at Giants Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Pat Sims (+4.6), Stefan Wisniewski (+4.0) and Andre Brown (+3.8)
– The three lowest graded players were Terrelle Pryor (-6.5), Khalif Barnes (-3.9) and Philip Adams (-3.6)
– Just 12 completions is never good, with only three of Eli Manning’s completions being thrown over 10 yards in the air. On the 15 occasions he was blitzed he averaged just 3.7 yards per attempt, took two sacks and had a 38.5 completion %.
– Still that wasn’t as bad as Pryor who took responsibility for another sack. We’ve charged 12 of the sacks he has taken to himself which speaks volume about the development he has left to do with the football.
– With Shaun Rogers done for the year it’s interesting to see where the playing time goes. Chiefly it remains with Linval Joseph (41 snaps) and Cullen Jenkins (39), but there was also action for Mike Patterson (25) and Johnathan Hankins (14).
15.30 – Bengals at Ravens Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Lardarius Webb (+5.4), Jimmy Smith (+4.3) and Vincent Rey (+3.9)
– The three lowest graded players were Andy Dalton (-6.1), Marshal Yanda (-4.3) and Reggie Nelson (-4.1)
– What went wrong for Dalton? He completed just 4-of-17 passes aimed over 10 yards in the air and just 28.6% of his passes when blitzed. Under pressure (18 occasions) he wasn’t much better where he earned a 7.6 QB rating.
– Webb on the other hand was thrown at 12 times, allowing just four receptions, picking off one ball and deflecting another three. Healthy day.
– With Jermaine Gresham out the Bengals went three receiver heavy. Their two tight end package saw just 25 of 91 snaps while they spent 50 snaps in 11 personnel.
15.00 – Cowboys at Saints Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Zach Strief (+5.3), Mackenzy Bernadeu (+5.0) and Drew Brees (+4.8)
– The three lowest graded players were both Jeff Heath and Bruce Carter (-5.2) as well as Ernie Sims (-4.7)
– Expect further study into this but the blog doesn’t recall ever given out a team grade better than the +37.2 the Saints achieved, or one worse than the -38.6 the Cowboys picked up.
– Of the five incompletions Brees threw one was when he was hit as throwing, another was a batted pass and one more was a drop.
– The Cowboys missed 15 tackles on defense. The Saints just two.

14.00 – Grade Snap Shot: WR Blocking
We don't just collect stats. Nope, indeed stat collection is a by product of the brilliant grading we do. We go into as much detail as anyone and one of the areas is looking at wide receivers and their blocking in the run game. So which guys are graded the highest there?
1) Brandon Marshall, CHI: +8.1
2) Drew Davis, ATL: +3.7
3) Darrius Heyward-Bey, IND: +3.5
13.30 – Eagles at Packers Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Evan Mathis (+4.9), Tramon Williams (+3.7) and Mike Daniels (+3.6)
– The three lowest graded players were Brad Jones (-4.2), Marshall Newhouse (-3.6) and Clay Matthews (-3.4)
– Getting his first taste of regular season action Scott Tolzien fared reasonably well … until he was blitzed. On the 12 occasions he was blitzed he earned a 36.1 QB rating and a -2.0 passing grade.
– A quiet day for Trent Cole. He rushed the passer on 26 occasions but didn’t generate any pressure, while Brandon Graham picked up two hurries on his nine pass rushes.
– The Packers spent just 11 snaps in their base 3-4 defense. All 11 came on the Eagles final drive that saw them run out the clock (and even then they responded to 12 personnel on four occasions with their nickel defense).
13.00 – Signature Stat Snapshop: Under Pressure
We love to tell you about which players are under pressure. It gives a more accurate reflection of the success and failures of a pass protecting unit. With that in mind here, of the games graded so far, here are the quarterbacks that faced the most pressure.
1) Jay Cutler, CHI: 53.7%
2) Philip Rivers, SD: 52.8%
3) Matt Ryan, ATL: 52.5%
12.30 – Jaguars at Titans Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Andy Levitre (+5.9), Ropati Pitoitua (+4.6) and Michael Roos (+4.5)
– The three lowest graded players were Uche Nwaneri (-6.0), Chad Henne (-4.9) and Austin Pastzor (-4.7)
– Jaguars third round rookie Dwayne Gratz had a day to remember on his way to a career best +4.4 grade. He allowed 21 yards into his coverage while picking off Jake Locker early in the second quarter.
– Without being a party pooper the offense still had a bad day. Henne, as his grade would suggest, struggled to get anything going with two picks and just 71 yards in the air (109 of his passing yards came after the catch) while the 2 yards per carry of Maurice Jones-Drew is made to look even worse when you consider 31 of his 42 yards came after contact.
– This week in the battle for snaps at wide receiver for the Titans Nate Washington led the way with 43. In second spot was Kendall Wright with 39 while Justin Hunter saw his most significant action to date with 38. That left just seven for Kenny Britt who must be counting down the days until the offseason where he can start afresh.

11.30 – Texans at Cardinals Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were J.J. Watt (+10.8), Calais Campbell (+9.4) and John Abraham (+3.0)
– The three lowest graded players were Eric Winston (-7.9), Wade Smith (-4.6) and both Daryn Colledge and Whitney Mercilus (-4.2)
– You read those highest grades correct. While it might seem there’s a typo both 3-4 defensive ends were just that good. We still have to do our All 22 to verify the grades but right now they’d be sitting as the best and fifth best grades we’ve ever awarded at that position.
– How did Case Keenum do? Well he did well until he was blitzed where his completion percentage fell to 38.9% and he took three sacks.
– Think Atlanta are missing the production of John Abraham? He has six sacks, a hit and 12 hurries in his last three games. Osi Umenyiora has 27 quarterback disruptions all year.
11.00 – Panthers at 49ers Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Joe Staley (+3.7) and both Dan Skuta and Patrick Willis (+3.1)
– The three lowest graded players were Nate Chandler (-3.7), Star Lotulelei (-3.4) and Colin Kaepernick (-2.9)
– On his return to the 49ers Aldon Smith played 12 snaps and picked up one pressure on his nine pass rushes.
– Speaking of returns Mario Manningham played 45 snaps and his return saw a shift in personnel usage. The team employed 21 personnel on 36.8% of plays when their season average heading into the game was 25.2%.
– On the nine plays the 49ers blitzed, they sacked Cam Newton on three occasions.
10.30 – Bills at Steelers Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Marcell Dareus (+5.6), Kyle Williams (+4.9) and Alan Branch (+3.5)
– The three lowest graded players were Heath Miller (-5.3), Fernando Velasco (-4.4) and Guy Whimper (-4.0)
– The big difference in the two teams were the quarterbacks. Ben Roethlisberger hardly set the world alight but he did complete 18-of-28 aimed passes with two drops, with five of his completions being on balls thrown further than 10 yards in the air. E.J. Manuel on the other hand completed just two balls over 10 yards in the air (he only attempted seven) as he averaged 4 yards per pass attempt.
– Another solid day rushing the passer for Jerry Hughes who picked up two sacks and a hurry on 18 pass rushes. That was more than Mario Williams (one hurry on 31 pass rushes) managed.
– Demoted but not forgotten. Mike Adams is still getting plenty of playing time as an additional tight end, getting the start and playing 28 snaps. Since the change of roles his grade has got better and better (it was +1.7 yesterday).
10.00 – Signature Stat Snap Shot: Yards Per Route Run
We have created many of our own statistics that go further than the standard box score numbers. While they're not offering as much context as our grades, they offer some insight into the production of players. One such example is our yards per route run number which highlights how many yards a receiver gets relative to the opportunity afforded him. Looking at all those who have run at least 15routes (sorry Tavon Austin), the currently weekly leaders are;
1) Jermaine Kearse, SEA: 4.17
2) Antonio Brown, PIT: 3.71
3) Golden Tate, SEA: 3.66
4) Chris Givens, SL: 3.38
5) Pierre Garcon, WAS: 3.44
09.30 – Bears at Lions Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Stephen Tulloch (+6.3), LaAdrian Waddle (+4.5) and Brandon Marshall (+3.9)
– The three lowest graded players were Matt Slauson (-4.5), Matt Forte (-3.9) and David Bass (-3.8)
– Much was made of how often Jay Cutler was under pressure and the numbers reinforce this. He spent 22 of 41 dropbacks under pressure where his completion percentage dropped from 68.4% (without pressure) to 38.1% (under pressure).
– The Lions ran 21 personnel on nine occasions, 12 personnel on eight occasions and 11 personnel on 31 snaps, highlighting what kind of offense they remain.
– The six quarterback disruptions from Ndamukong Suh were his most since week four of the season while the five of Nick Fairley were his most all year.
09.00 – Seahawks at Falcons Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Jonathan Babineaux (+6.4), Marshawn Lynch (+4.9) and Tony McDaniel (+4.2)
– The three lowest graded players were Paul McQuistan (-6.0), James Carpenter (-4.0) and both William Moore and Peter Konz (-3.5)
– The Seahawks got two rookie tackles significant action and while the more experienced guards struggled both Michael Bowie and Alvin Bailey can be proud of their work. Bailey certainly opened some eyes in not allowing any pressure on his 16 snaps in pass protection.
– On the return of Roddy White to action he ran 39 routes. That was second on the team to Harry Douglas who ran 30, with Darius Johnson (18) seeing more opportunities than Drew Davis (13).
– Russell Wilson was under pressure on 30% of his passing dropbacks. That was the lowest amount of pressure he has faced all year.

08.00 – Broncos at Chargers Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Von Miller (+5.8), Demaryius Thomas (+3.8) and Louis Vasquez (+2.9)
– The three lowest graded players were Shareece Wright (-3.9), Antonio Gates (-2.7) and Mike Adams (-2.6)
– While Peyton Manning ended up with more yards than Philip Rivers some of that owes to the work of his receivers after the catch. 213 of the 330 yards he threw came after the catch, compared to 78 of 218 for Rivers.
– Another big day for Von Miller. He picked up three defensive stops in the run game (12.5% of run defense snaps) and added a sack and five hurries on 28 pass rushes.
– The Chargers used three wideouts on 43 of their 75 offensive snaps. That was in contrast to 10 uses of 21 personnel and 18 of 12 personnel.
07.30 – Rams at Colts Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Robert Mathis (+4.6) and both William Hayes and Trumaine Johnson (+4.1)
– The three lowest graded players were Andrew Luck (-4.5), Mike McGlynn (-4.1) and Jared Cook (-3.7)
– Not something you often see. The Colts missed just one tackle (the Rams were up at eight).
– Tavon Austin only needed nine routes and three targets to pick up his 138 yards and start to show the world while the Rams spent such a high pick on him.
– In the battle for routes with Reggie Wayne though T.Y. Hilton led the receivers with 47. In second both Griff Whalen and Darrius Heyward-Bey ran 39 while LaVon Brazil (23) and David Reed (22) both got in on the action.
07.00 – Redskins at Vikings Game Notes
– The three highest-graded players were Robert Griffin III (+5.7), Everson Griffen (+4.2) and both Kevin Williams and John Carlson (+4.1)
– The three lowest-graded players were Brandon Meriweather (-5.9), Chris Chester (-5.7) and Chad Greenway (-4.3)
– Not a game either defense will be proud of, especially when it came to the tackling department. The Vikings missed 13 and the Redskins matched that number.
– Another big day receiver for Pierre Garcon who picked up a very impressive 3.22 Yards per Route Run. With 86 of his yards coming after the catch he really highlighted his danger with the ball in hand.
– A busy day for Andrew Sendejo. His -1.2 grade doesn’t tell the story as he not only missed three tackles, but got in on 16 of them with half of those being defensive stops. That’s a nose for the football.
