PFF Preview: Seahawks @ Rams, Week 7

2014-Prev-WK07-SEA@STLIn an NFC West showdown, Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks will travel to St. Louis to face off against Jeff Fisher’s Rams.

The front four of Seattle’s defense will look to neutralize the Rams’ running game and disrupt the rhythm of quarterback Austin Davis this week. Defensive end Michael Bennett’s +10.0 Pass Rush grade is second at his position behind Miami’s Cameron Wake. Bennett also has 14 hurries and a Pass Rush Productivity of 11.3 (fourth-highest among defensive ends) in 2014. Teammate Cliff Avril is not far behind, earning a 11.1 Pass Rush Productivity grade to go along with his strong play against the run (+4.0 Run Defense grade).

St. Louis’ offensive line will hope to withstand Seattle’s aggressive front four on Sunday afternoon. The unit has undergone some changes in recent weeks, with first round rookie Greg Robinson making his first start last week. Robinson had a strong debut, earning a +1.5 overall grade. Right tackle Joe Barksdale is the highest-rating run blocking tackle in the NFL through six weeks (+9.2) and has been effective in pass protection. Guard Roger Saffold has been solid despite multiple position swaps since training camp. Saffold has not allowed a QB hit yet this season and has earned a Pass Blocking Efficiency grade of 97.0.

Here are three more notable numbers for each side:

Seattle Seahawks

Marshawn Lynch – has forced 29 missed tackles this season and his 80.1 Elusive Rating places him third among running backs.

Bobby Wagner – is PFF’s second highest-rated overall inside linebacker, accumulating a +9.2 grade in five games.

Richard Sherman – ranks first among cornerbacks (along with Chris Harris) with 19.9 Coverage Snaps per Reception.

St. Louis Rams

Jared Cook – is seventh at his position with at least 30 targets with 1.78 Yards per Route Run.

Aaron Donald – the rookie is fifth among defensive tackles in overall grade (+11.6) and third in Run Defense grade (+7.2) in 2014.

E.J. Gaines – has only allowed 12 receptions while in coverage this season, while defending 3 passes and causing opposing quarterbacks to earn a 63.9 QB Rating throwing into his coverage.
