PFF Preview: Redskins @ Cardinals, Week 6
Coming off a loss on Monday Night Football, the Washington Redskins will travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals in Week 6.
The Redskins will be hoping quarterback Kirk Cousins plays more like he did in his first two games (+7.1 grade) than his last two (-5.1). Despite the recent downswing, Cousins ranks fifth in the NFL with 8.1 Yards per Attempt and ranks within the Top 12 in both Yards in the Air Percentage (56.4%) and total passing yards (1,217).
Looking to keep Cousins and the Redskins’ offense in check is an aggressive Cardinals defense that features a talented cornerback duo in Antonio Cromartie and Patrick Peterson. Cromartie carries a +2.0 coverage grade through four games this season and has defended five passes. Both Cromartie and Peterson rank inside the Top 10 at their position in Coverage Snaps per Reception, with 13.6 and 13.5, respectively. Peterson also ranks seventh among cornerbacks with 0.78 Yards per Coverage Snap.
Here are three more notable numbers for each side:
Jason Hatcher – leads all 3-4 defensive ends with four sacks and is second (behind only J.J. Watt) with a +9.2 pass rushing grade at his position.
Trent Williams – is fourth among offensive tackles with a 97.6 Pass Blocking Efficiency grade in 2014.
Ryan Kerrigan – ranks third among 3-4 outside linebackers with a 13.1 Pass Rush Productivity mark and second with 15 hurries this season.
Jared Veldheer – has only allowed seven total pressures this season, helping him to a 96.3 Pass Blocking Efficiency mark that is in the Top 20 for offensive tackles.
Matt Shaughnessy – his +3.8 grade against the run is fourth among 3-4 outside linebackers and he ranks seventh at his position with a 7.1 Run stop Percentage.
Andre Ellington – ranks fourth among running backs with at least 50 attempts earning a 37.3 Breakaway Percentage (percentage of yards coming from runs of 15 yards or longer).
