PFF Preview: Packers @ Saints, Week 8
The (2-4) New Orleans Saints welcome the (5-2) Green Bay Packers to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for some prime time football on Sunday night. The Saints are trying to regroup after allowing two late touchdowns and losing in Detroit 24-23. The Packers stayed red hot by dismantling Carolina at home 38-17 and have now won four straight.
How the Saints deal with Jordy Nelson, will turn out to be a huge factor in this game. Nelson leads our wide receiver grading with a +11.3 mark overall. Aaron Rodgers has a quarterback rating of 119.7 when targeting him and Nelson’s 2.98 Yards Per Route Run ranks 2nd behind only Demaryius Thomas. The Saints will counter with Keenan Lewis who should see a lot of Nelson from his left corner spot. Lewis is grading at -1.5 in pass coverage on the year, but he’s coming off of his best game of the year after grading out at +4.1 in coverage against the Lions.
Here are a few other players to watch for.
Green Bay Packers
Corey Linsley – His +5.5 overall grade ranks sixth among centers and his +7.1 run blocking grade checks in at third overall.
Letroy Guion – After grading at -5.2 overall through the first four games, Guion has graded +1.7 or better in each of the last three games.
Casey Hayward – In 77 snaps in the slot Hayward has been targeted seven times. He has allowed two completions for 22 yards and picked off two passes. His 38.5 coverage snaps per reception allowed ranks first in our Cornerbacks Slot Performance signature stat.
New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees – His passing grade currently ranks 10th at +7.9 and his 79.2% Accuracy Percentage ranks second behind only Alex Smith.
Junior Galette – Galette has a +6.4 pass rushing grade which puts him at fifth out of all 4-3 defensive ends. His 10.9 Pass Rush Productivity rating is eighth at his position.
Mark Ingram – He should see a significant snap increase this week with the Pierre Thomas injury. Ingram was grading out at +2.3 with a +1.4 rushing grade before getting injured in Week 2.
