PFF Preview: Jaguars @ Ravens, Week 15

2014-Prev-WK15-JAX@BALAfter erasing a 10-point deficit and knocking off the Miami Dolphins at home, the Baltimore Ravens (8-5) look to build momentum as they continue their push towards a crowded AFC playoff race that has 12 7-6 teams jockeying for six playoff spots. As the Ravens have reached what seems to be the favorable part of their schedule, they’ll face the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11), who at this point of the season are playing the role of playoff spoiler and looking to improve, as they wrap up Year 2 under head coach Gus Bradley and head into the offseason.

One matchup to keep an eye on is that of fellow rookies, Brandon Linder and Timmy Jernigan. Both Linder and Jernigan have played well this season and will battle one another in the interior part of the line.

A third-round selection, Linder has been Jacksonville’s most impressive offensive player, yet likely unknown to many. Since stepping in as a starter in Week 1, Linder has stood out in his duties as both a pass blocker (+9.0) and run blocker (+7.0) and his Pass Blocking Efficiency(PBE) of 98.1 ranks ninth out of 79 qualifying guards.

The impressive rookie will look to slow down Jernigan, who played a career-high 36 snaps in Week 14. Due to Haloti Ngata’s suspension, Jernigan is likely to see his snap count increase, rightfully so as he yet to earn a red grade and has been stout against the run. Although a rookie, Jernigan has the 13th-best defensive run grade (+5.7) among all 3-4 defensive ends and his Run Stop Percentage of 17.5% ranks fourth.

These two may be rookies, but they aren’t playing like it.

Here are three more notable numbers for each side:

Jacksonville Jaguars

Ryan Davis – His pass rush grade of +13.6 ranks fourth among defensive tackles/nose tackles.

Red Bryant – A run defense grade of +11.5 ranks third among 4-3 defensive ends.

Clay Harbor – Snaps have fallen off but when thrown to has dropped just one of 27 catchable balls. That 3.7% drop rate ties him with three others for the fifth-best mark among tight ends.

Baltimore Ravens

C.J. Mosley – With 53 stops, Mosley leads all rookie linebackers.

Justin Forsett – Of Forsett’s 192 carries, 108 have gone towards the right side of the line.

Joe Flacco – When under pressure, Flacco has a PFF Rating of -5.0.
