PFF Preview: Lions @ Falcons, Week 8
The 5-2 Detroit Lions, with the third-highest graded defense in the league per cumulative PFF player grades, will head to London to take on the Atlanta Falcons and Matt Ryan who is ranked fifth in PFF QB Rating among QBs with at least 250 drop-backs.
Ryan has graded out at +13.3 passing this year and is fourth among QBs in Deep Passing, completing 16 of 36 passes over 20 yards while throwing four interceptions on those attempts. The strength of the Lions’ defense comes from their defensive tackles. Both Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh have graded out over +11.0 overall on the year. Fairley is eighth among DTs in Run Stop Percentage and is also the No. 1 DT in Pass Rushing Productivity while Suh comes in at seventh rushing the passer. They have combined for 45 pressures.
On defense for the Falcons, Desmond Trufant continues to impress grading out at+5.8 while grading over +2.0 against the pass and the run. Trufant comes in ninth in coverage rankings among CBs with at least 215 snaps while the Falcons’ No. 2 CB Robert Alford is 11th.
Here are three more notable numbers for each side:
Riley Reiff – Currently the Lions’ highest-rated offensive player with a +5.7 and has not been called for a penalty yet this season.
DeAndre Levy – Levy is the Lions’ highest-rated player on the defense at +12.6, has graded out green in six of seven games, and has 40 stops on the year.
Glover Quin – Boasts a +6.1 coverage grade and comes in as the fourth-ranked safety in coverage among those with at least 215 snaps.
Kroy Biermann – Has a +2.8 run grade and his 25 stops lead all 3-4 OLBs in the league.
Julio Jones – Ranks ninth among WRs with over 40 targets in Yards per Route Run. He’s ranked ninth while doing his damage in the middle of the field 10 yards or deeper, catching 17 of 27 targets for 325 yards.
Jon Asamoah – The guard has a +3.9 pass block grade coming in at 11th in Pass Blocking Efficiency among guards with 250 snaps and has yet to give up a sack.
