PFF Preview: Dolphins @ Bears, Week 7
The (2-3) Miami Dolphins head to Soldier Field this Sunday to play the (3-3) Chicago Bears. The Dolphins come in a game and a half behind New England in the AFC East and look to get back on track after a tough last-second loss to the Packers at home last week. The Bears rode a strong second half to a 27-13 win in Atlanta last week and are trying to keep pace with the Lions and Packers who each sit at (4-2).
A key matchup here will be between Bears’ second-year right tackle Jordan Mills and the Dolphins’ premier pass rusher Cameron Wake. Mills’ current pass block grade of -9.4 makes him the 69th-rated tackle and his 93.7 Pass Block Efficiency ranks 50th out of 58. Cameron Wake is currently our highest-graded 4-3 defensive end at +15.3. His Pass Rush Productivity rating of 12.8 and 24 total pressures also lead the pack.
Here are a few other players to keep an eye on.
Olivier Vernon – Vernon comes in as our eighth-ranked 4-3 end at +5.1. He’s looking to build on last week when he had the second highest grade of his career with a +3.7 mark.
Jelani Jenkins – Jenkins ranks second behind Von Miller in our 4-3 outside backer grading at +10.2 and shows balance with grades over +3.8 against both the run and pass.
Brandon Albert – His +7.2 pass block grade ties him for second out of all tackles and his 97.4 Pass Blocking Efficiency rating ties him for 5th best.
Martellus Bennett – He ranks right behind Delanie Walker as our No. 2 tight end with a +9.4 overall mark. Bennett comes in at third in tight end Drop Rate at only 2.7%.
Lamarr Houston and Willie Young – Houston’s +4.1 pass rush grade and 21 total pressures rank him sixth out of 4-3 ends. Young has balanced Houston by ranking fourth with a +5.9 run grade and follows only Jason Pierre-Paul with a second ranked 10.5% Run Stop percentage.
Matt Forte – Forte is second behind Pierre Thomas with a +4.9 receiving grade. His 1.96 Yards Per Route Run ranks fourth among running backs.
