PFF Preview: Colts @ Jaguars, Week 3
In an AFC South battle between winless teams, the Indianapolis Colts travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in their home opener.
Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck will look to bounce back after a subpar start to the season and protecting him will be crucial to his success this week. So far in 2014, the Colts’ offensive line has been solid. All five starters have a Pass Blocking grade over +1.0, with Anthony Castonzo’s +3.1 grade leading the way. Center A.Q. Shipley has been a pleasant surprise in is first two games back, earning a perfect 100.0 Pass Blocking Efficiency grade.
For the Jaguars, two key players battling against the Colts’ offensive line will be defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks and defensive end Red Bryant. Marks is off to a somewhat slow start to 2014, but posted a +10.5 pass rushing grade in 2013. Bryant has been productive for his new team, earning a +3.1 overall grade so far this season. Rotational defensive tackle Ryan Davis looks to be commencing a breakout season, with a league leading +5.2 Pass Rush grade through two games among defensive tackles.
Here are three more notable numbers for each side:
Cory Redding – Leads his defense with a +3.3 overall grade and a +3.8 pass rushing grade. He is the only Colts player with a grade above +1.0 in that department.
Vontae Davis – Ranks second among cornerbacks in the NFL behind Antonio Cromartie with a 0.28 Yards per Coverage Snap and 25.3 Coverage Snaps per Reception.
Ahmad Bradshaw – Has forced seven missed tackles in only 26 touches so far this season, and is eighth among running backs with 2.04 Yards per Route Run.
Zane Beadles – Has accumulated a 98.8 Pass Blocking Efficiency through two games, only allowing one quarterback pressure.
LaRoy Reynolds – Earned a +2.7 Run Defense grade through two games this season, while ranking fifth among 4-3 outside linebackers with a 14.3 Run Stop Percentage.
Josh Evans – Leads all safeties with a +3.6 coverage grade and two passes defended in 2014.
