PFF Preview: Cardinals @ Broncos, Week 5

2014-Prev-WK05-ARZ@DENIn an exciting Week 4 matchup, the Arizona Cardinals will travel to Denver to take on John Fox’s Broncos.

The battle in the trenches will be key in determining who reigns victorious in this game. The Cardinals’ defensive line has been successfully getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks so far in 2014. Defensive end Calais Campbell has a pass rush grade of +6.5 this season, ranking fourth among 3-4 defensive ends. Fellow end Tommy Kelly has a +1.8 pass rush grade, and his Pass Rush Productivity of 8.7 is fifth-best at his position. Arizona’s defensive line has accumulated 23 total pressures in three games to this point.

Denver’s offensive line will attempt to keep quarterback Peyton Manning on his feet. They have been doing a great job at this through the team’s first three games, allowing only two sacks. Right tackle Chris Clark has earned a +2.8 pass block grade in his three games, and his 98.0 Pass Blocking Efficiency is third-highest in the NFL among tackles playing at least 100 pass blocking snaps (and highest among right tackles). Left guard Orlando Franklin has also been stout in pass protection. His 98.7 Pass Blocking Efficiency in 113 snaps is seventh-best in the league at his position. Protecting Manning is always a key part of the Broncos’ game plan.

Here are three more notable numbers for each side:

Arizona Cardinals

Antonio Cromartie – Ranks second at his position behind Richard Sherman with 25.5 Coverage Snaps per Reception.

Michael Floyd – Floyd has a +3.9 overall grade to this point in 2014, and is third among receivers with 22.9 Yards per Reception.

Tony Jefferson – Jefferson is PFF’s top-rated safety against the run (+3.7 grade) and is also No. 1 at his position with a 20.7 Run Stop Percentage.

Denver Broncos

Emmanuel Sanders – Sanders' 2.96 Yards per Route Run ranks fourth in the league among receivers with at least 25 targets.

Chris Harris Jr. – Harris is seventh among cornerbacks with 0.70 Yards Allowed per Coverage Snap, and opposing quarterbacks have a 41.3 rating when throwing into his coverage.

Von Miller – Miller's 13 hurries is the highest among 4-3 outside linebackers (nine more than the next best linebacker) and his +7.0 overall grade is second-best at his position.
