PFF Preview: Bills @ Patriots, Week 17
Da’Norris Searcy and the Buffalo Bills will head into Foxborough this weekend to take on Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots.
Searcy is the 13th overall ranked safety despite only playing 611 snaps so far this year, grading out in the green both in coverage and against the run. He is second in Run Stop Percentage among safeties with at least 200 run snaps racking up 14 stops with only two missed tackles. He leads safeties with 330 snaps in coverage giving up only seven catches for 72 yards and picking off three balls.
Searcy will be tasked with taking on matchup nightmare Gronkowski. Not only does Gronk lead all tight ends in pass rating at +23.8, but no other tight end has a pass grade that’s half of that mark. His pass grade would rank only behind the top receiver Antonio Brown. He leads all tight ends in Target Percentage (27.9%), Yards per Route Run (2.53), and Yards per Route Run in the slot (2.51).
Here are three more notable numbers for each side:
Brandon Spikes – Ranks eighth among ILBs with a +7.9 run grade and also comes in at eighth in Run Stop Percentage with 20 stops to only two missed tackles.
Fred Jackson – Continues to be a threat in the passing game: 65 catches which is third among HBs, has only dropped two balls, and ranks sixth in Yards per Route Run among backs with at least 30 targets.
Corey Graham – Since Week 12 Graham ranks seventh in Run Stop Percentage, has only one missed tackle, and ranks 12th in opponent passer rating when targeted at 57.0.
New England Patriots
Tom Brady – His 2.38-second average time to throw is the third-shortest this season (Peyton Manning, Andy Dalton)
Vince Wilfork – Ranks ninth in Run Stop Percentage among 3-4 Ends collecting 26 stops on 30 tackles, missing only two tackles in the process.
Darrelle Revis – His coverage grade of +14.6 ranks third among all corners. Since Week 5 Revis ranks third in Cover Snaps per Reception (16.6), fifth in Cover Snaps per Target (8.2), and fourth in Yards per Cover Snap (0.73).
