In preparation for NFL Week 5, here are the updated PFF power rankings. As a twist on our usual presentation, each team-rank this week includes an interesting statistic about a second-year player worth noting.
1. Green Bay Packers
The sophomore safety with the highest run stop percentage is the Packers' Ha Ha Clinton-Dix at 7.8 percent.
2. New England Patriots
The player from the Patriots' 2014 draft class with the most snaps this season is Dominique Easley, with 39. The only other player from their draft class with any offensive or defensive snaps is James White (18 snaps).
3. Denver Broncos
Even after surrendering six catches for 86 yards against the Vikings, Bradley Roby has allowed an NFL passer rating of 56.3, the best for second-year cornerbacks.
4. Cincinnati Bengals
Center Russell Bodine has had five straight games without allowing a sack or a hit.
5. Atlanta Falcons
After not playing on defense at all his rookie year, Ricardo Allen leads all second year safeties in yards per coverage snap at 0.24. He’s allowed just five catches for 28 yards on 115 coverage snaps, and has one interception.
6. Arizona Cardinals
Receiver John Brown has five career games with 62 or more yards. Two of those five came in the last two weeks, and all five games were played at home.
7. Seattle Seahawks
Defensive end Cassius Marsh had two run stops and no pressures on 71 snaps as a rookie. In his sophomore year, he has roughly half the snaps (37), but has already beat his rookie production with two run stops and a hurry.
8. Kansas City Chiefs
When lining up in the slot, Phillip Gaines had a yards per coverage snap of 0.81, tenth-best for slot corners with at least 50 slot coverage snaps, and the best for second-year corners with at least 50 slot coverage snaps.
9. Carolina Panthers
There are four second-year guards with a +1.0 grade or better in both pass blocking and run blocking. The Panthers have two of them in Andrew Norwell and Trai Turner.
10. Indianapolis Colts
When the Colts receivers have thrown to Donte Moncrief this year, he’s had an NFL passer rating of 121.6, third-best for the class. That is nearly identical to last year, when it was 122.0, also third-best for the class.
11. New York Jets
Safety Calvin Pryor has 11 stops on the year, tied for sixth-best among all safeties.
12. New York Giants
Seven teams have a second-year center as a starter; the one with the best pass blocking efficiency is Weston Richburg at 99.5 He has yet to allow a sack or hit, and has allowed just one hurry.
13. Pittsburgh Steelers
Linebacker Ryan Shazier has a run-stop percentage of 14.6, third-best for all ILBs.
14. Minnesota Vikings
Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has an accuracy percentage of 78.8, which is at least 7 percent higher than all other quarterbacks from his class.
15. Oakland Raiders
The second-year cornerback with the lowest yards per coverage snap is T.J. Carrie at 0.68.
16. St. Louis Rams
Defensive end Ethan Westbrooks has a run-stop percentage of 18.5, tied for the best for all 4-3 defensive ends.
17. Dallas Cowboys
Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has a single two-stop performance over his first 10 games. In each of his last three games, he’s had two stops.
18. Buffalo Bills
Wide receiver Sammy Watkins has an average depth of target of 22.9 yards this season, 2.5 yards more than any other receiver.
19. Philadelphia Eagles
Wide receiver Jordan Matthews has 140 yards after the catch, 10th best for all receivers, and the best for sophomore receivers.
20. New Orleans Saints
Wide receiver Willie Snead has 2.4 yards per route run—the best for all sophomore receivers with at least 20 pass routes run.
21. Tennessee Titans
Halfback Bishop Sankey is averaging 3.1 yards after contact per carry, tied for fifth-best for all running backs with at least 15 carries.
22. Baltimore Ravens
Tight end Crockett Gillmore has forced six players to miss tackles on him on his receptions, more than all of the other second-year tight ends combined.
23. San Diego Chargers
Cornerback Jason Verrett has only allowed 8 yards after the catch this season, third-fewest for cornerbacks with 60 or more coverage snaps.
24. Washington
As a rookie, Ryan Grant only had one game with two or more catches. He’s had two or more catches in each of his last three games.
25. Jacksonville Jaguars
Quarterback Blake Bortles has 404 passing yards on deep passes, second most in the league. He’s done this on 11 completions, the most for all quarterbacks.
26. Cleveland Browns
Undrafted defensive linemen Jamie Meder has a pass rushing productivity of 13.1, the best for sophomore 3-4 defensive ends. On one in every six pass rushes, he’s been able to pressure the quarterback.
27. Houston Texans
Jadeveon Clowney has a run defense grade of +6.3 on the season, third-best for 3-4 outside linebackers behind Pernell McPhee and Justin Houston.
28. Chicago Bears
Cornerback Kyle Fuller started his career allowing 20 or more passing yards in 15 straight games. In three of his last five, he’s allowed fewer than 20, including each of his last two.
29. San Francisco 49ers
The second-year runner with the best elusive rating is Jarryd Hayne at 114.3. If you look at only runners with a significant number of touches, then the leader is Carlos Hyde at 97.3.
30. Detroit Lions
In 2014, Eric Ebron never had more than 38 receiving yards in a game. In each of the first three games this season Ebron had at least 43, and only failed to get that many last night due to injury.
31. Miami Dolphins
Wide receiver Jarvis Landry has had seven players miss tackles on him, the best for second-year receivers, and tied for fourth best among all wide receivers.
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins has a yards per route run of 2.9, the best for all tight ends this year.
