PFF ‘Had a Bad Day’ Team of Week 12

For all the good that we see in the NFL there’s an awful lot of bad as well.

An overthrow by a quarterback. A blown assignment by a cornerback. A lineman getting beat quicker than a hiccup for a pressure.

We notice it even when the stat sheet doesn’t. Here’s our ‘Had a Bad Day’ Team of Week 12.

Offense

Quarterback: Ryan Lindley, ARZ (-6.9)

Did well to hold off the challenge of Charlie Batch, but some truly awful throws and decision making earned him this nod. In fairness to Lindley he shouldn’t have been put in this spot, but it’s not pretty to watch.

Running Back: Matt Forte, CHI (-2.9)

Adding insult to injury? Our lowest rated rusher of the week didn’t help himself with a fumble and a longest gain of 6 yards.

Full Back: Evan Rodriguez, CHI (-1.5)

We’re not waxing lyrical about rookie fullback Rodriguez and his lead blocking this week, that’s for sure.

Tight End: Brandon Pettigrew, DET (-4.0)

If Pettigrew could hold onto the ball and not fumble it away, well then he wouldn’t have made this team for starters. A costly fumble and two drops summed up another disappointing outing from the former first rounder.

Wide Receivers: Donnie Avery, IND (-3.9) and Jerome Simpson, MIN (-2.6)

In a stunner Larry Fitzgerald almost made this team as it looks like the Cardinals quarterback situation has finally caught up with him. He was saved by the four combined drops and 35 combined yards (on 11 targets) of Avery and Simpson, with the Colt also fumbling.

Tackles: Marshall Newhouse, GB (-4.5) and T.J. Lang, GB (-6.0)

That was bad. Very bad from the Packers tackles. They combined to give up two sacks, two hits and seven hurries as well as two penalties. They need to get better quick.

Guards: Rob Sims, DET (-4.3) and Shawn Lauvao, CLV (-4.7)

Sims had problems all day long with Antonio Smith, surrendering seven hurries when he’d given up just eight QB disruptions heading into the game. Joining him is Lauvao who had some real problems in the run game and was flagged for two penalties.

Center: Samson Satele, IND (-4.6)

Bad Samson turned up on Sunday. He simply wasn’t up to the task of dealing with either Kyle Williams or Marcel Dareus.

Defense

Defensive Front 4-3

Defensive Ends: Kyle Vanden Bosch, DET (-7.1) and Chris Long, SL (-4.1)

Seriously how many times is KVB going to make this team? It’s started to feel personal, but there comes a time when the Lions staff needs to realize intangibles don’t equal on field production. Long’s up and down season continued as he let a potential chance to boost his stats go right through his fingers against the Cardinals.

Defensive Tackle: Michael Brockers, SL (-2.5) and Brandon Deadrick, NE (-2.2)

In other weeks neither man would make the team. But this week they did as Brockers struggled to get much up field penetration, and Deadrick was moved about in the run game.

Linebackers: DeAndre Levy, DET (-5.1), Wesley Woodyard, DEN (-4.8) and Paul Posluszny, JAX (-3.8)

Neither of our starting outside linebackers missed a tackle, but given the ease at which they were moved around by offensive linemen they didn’t need to. In the middle is the Jags’ Posluszny who didn’t excel in coverage and missed a couple of tackles.

Defensive Front 3-4

Defensive Line: Isaac Sopoaga, SF (-3.7), Mike Devito (-3.3) and Haloti Ngata, BLT (-2.7)

Not every 49ers defender had a game for the ages. Sopoaga had some real problems on the nose, and even managed to miss a tackle when he did get off a block. Either side of him Devito had some problems getting off blocks to make plays while Ngata really failed to turn a lot of pass rushes into much pressure.

Outside Linebackers: Tamba Hali, KC (-4.8) and Erik Walden, GB (-4.3)

Tough day for Hali who only had two hurries to show for his day against Ryan Clady while he got worked over in the run game. Still, that was more than Walden who drew a blank as the Packers tried to make up for the loss of Matthews.

Inside Linebackers: Demorrio Williams, SD (-3.6) and Bradie James, HST (-3.3)

It would have been easy to put in Ernie Sims for that blown coverage alone, but situational linebacker Williams had problems in the run game and coverage when he came into the lineup. James had some problems getting off blocks at crucial times and found himself losing dime package playing time to Daryl Sharpton.

Cornerbacks: A.J. Jefferson, MIN (-3.3) and Jabari Greer, NO (-3.2)

A near miss for Mike Jenkins, with the problems (and missed tackling) of Jefferson getting him a spot here. Greer gave up more yards (80) in one of his worst games since joining the Saints.

Safeties: Kurt Coleman, PHI (-5.9) and Quintin Demps, HST (-4.4)

Demps, a dime safety, was fortunate to only give up 37 yards in the air while getting washed out in run support. Yet, he wasn’t anywhere near as bad as Coleman who missed two tackles, gave up a touchdown and looked like he should have been watching Monday Night Football rather than playing on it.
