Panthers: Stewart is Mr. December

PFF-headlinesThe Panthers are currently undefeated in December and still in the running for a second-straight NFC South title—thanks in large part to running back Jonathan Stewart.

Stewart has exploded over the last four games, rushing for a NFL-leading 438 yards. His +4.0 overall grade, ranks seventh among RBs during that span.

It’s been Stewart’s knack for the big play that has fueled his late-season success. He’s had seven runs of 15+ yards or more, second only to Eddie Lacy’s eight.  He ranks third in the league in Breakaway Percentage – with 43.4% of his yardage coming on those long runs.

Stewart hasn’t had much activity as a receiver during that time (only eight targets) but has certainly pulled his weight in pass protection. In his 29 pass blocking snaps over the last four weeks, he’s only given up one hurry.

As the Panthers fight for a playoff spot in this week’s game, keeping Stewart’s hot-streak alive will be key.
