In the latest installment of the Jacksonville Jaguars not being able to catch a break, they lost star tight end and big-money free agent Julius Thomas to a hand fracture that is likely to sideline him for the remainder of the preseason.
Thomas left the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the first quarter with the injury but it seems unlikely to affect his regular season, with Gus Bradley expecting him back by week one according to reports.
Thomas was a star in Denver with Peyton Manning and the Jaguars are hoping he can bring firepower to their offense and help out second year quarterback Blake Bortles.
Thomas caught 108 passes over his past two seasons in Denver but almost a quarter of them (24) were touchdowns as he provided the kind of matchup problem teams search for at the position.
The Jaguars handed Thomas a five-year, $46 million contract in free agency and expect Thomas to be an asset long-term for them, and with the injury not expected to sideline him into the regular season it could have been much worse, but at the very least this will disrupt the chemistry the team needs to develop between Thomas and Bortles.
