Jets: Mangold back to his best

PFF-headlinesEver since he entered the league in 2006 with the New York Jets, Nick Mangold has been among the very best centers in the league. We don't have grades for his rookie campaign, but over the following six seasons Mangold amassed a terrific overall grade of +197.4. Mangold has always been good in pass protection (+20.8 across those six seasons) but has truly stood out in the running game, posting a run blocking grade of +168.3 in that period. However last season Mangold slumped to a +3.1 overall grade, 19th in the league among centers, but the alarming stat was his -2.8 run blocking grade, which ranked 29th out of 35 qualifying players.

Thankfully for the Jets, the nine year center quickly turned the page on last year, and is now grading out as the top center in the league again with a +18.2 overall grade. He has been back to his best in the run game, with an impressive +13.1 run blocking grade, second-best at the position. While conceding just one sack and five total pressures gives him a 99.1 Pass Blocking Efficiency score, which leads all centers.
