Jaguars: Davis a difference-maker on D-Line

PFF-headlinesAfter spending the majority of his first two years as a defensive end, Ryan Davis has been a dominant force at defensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014.

Rotating as a situational pass rusher, Davis has yet to play more than 50% of defensive snaps in any game this year and despite playing just 185 total snaps on the season, he leads the Jaguars’ defensive line with an overall grade of +14.4.

Davis has been especially effective attacking opposing quarterbacks.  His pass rush grade of +12.6 ranks him fifth among all NFL DTs and his Pass Rushing Productivity score of 10.6 is second among all DTs with at least 50 pass rush snaps.  Davis has six sacks and 17 total QB pressures on just 134 pass rushing snaps, and has teamed with Sen’Derrick Marks to provide one of the league’s best interior pass-rushing duos.

At 6’2” and 261 pounds, Davis may be slightly undersized to play a full time role at DT, but with the Jags struggling to find production at DE, he could find a home outside on early downs. Regardless of position, Davis has earned an opportunity for increased playing time going forward.
