Every Tuesday I’ll be giving you the lowdown on which individual defensive players (IDP) to target for the upcoming week’s waiver wire, so without further ado here is this week’s under the radar prospects.
Defensive Lineman
Jason Hatcher, Dallas Cowboys 2 – 4% of FAAB
It’s important not to overreact to a single big-game as an IDP owner as you can be left holding lots of overvalued assets, but there comes a point when a trend or pattern is established, and that has now happened with Jason Hatcher. With at least a one tackle for loss in five games this year, and a sack or more in four games, Hatcher has been causing havoc in opposing backfields since Week 1 and it doesn’t look like a fluke. Throw in an injury to DeMarcus Ware which will keep him out at least one game, and Hatcher should see a bump in playing time this coming game week.
Michael Brockers, St Louis Rams 1 % of FAAB
A recommendation for gamers in DT required leagues, if Brockers is still available, go and pick him up. He put up a monster score last week thanks to seven solo tackles, three for a loss, with a further two sacks as well, moving him up to be a top-5 scoring defensive tackle in most scoring formats. Before the Week 6 clash with the Texans, he had yet to register a tackle for loss, and only had 1.5 sacks on the season, but he had generated seven quarterback pressures, so it wasn’t a fluke performance. All being said though, owners in leagues that combined defensive tackles and ends should only pursue Brockers in 14-plus team leagues, or leagues with very deep benches.
