IDP Waiver Wire - Week 13
The fantasy playoffs start in some leagues this week, so if that applies to you, congratulations on making it to the dance! You should have a solid roster if you’ve made it into the post-season, and the win-or-you’re-out format of the playoffs changes the approach when assessing potential targets.
The need to be aggressive in pursuing upside players increases, and the riskier options often become the best plays. That’s not to say there isn’t a role for more consistent scorers during the next month, but my strategy now takes on a more honed-edge as I look to pickup impact players to fill roster holes.
Last week I recommended Buccaneers defensive end Jacquies Smith and he rewarded those of you who did pick him up with his fourth sack in four games. However, he is very much a boom-or-bust play as he only has nine total tackles over that span, so he could be vulnerable to a low score. This week sees him matchup with the Bengals, and although they did hold J.J. Watt to 11 points, have conceded a double-digit fantasy point game to a defensive end in five of the last seven weeks. Also, Smith rushes from the left side on 85.7 percent of his blitzes, and with Bengals starting right tackle Andre Smith now on IR, he’ll face-off against the mediocre Marshall Newhouse, which leads me to believe Smith should post a solid DE2 score on Sunday.
