IDP Consensus Rankings Analysis: Week 9

Every week, our own Jeff Ratcliffe, Ross Miles, Mike Woellert, and Eric Yeomans give you their rankingsfor each of the three IDP positions.  In this column, I take a look at their ranks and discuss my thoughts on where they agree and disagree.

Defensive Linemen

Nothing surprising at the top, as Jason Pierre-Paul, J.J. Watt, Cameron Wake, Jared Allen, and Julius Peppers represent the top five defensive linemen for Week 9.

Just as we did last week we have a 3-4 defensive end coming in unusually high, this week at No. 9.  Justin Smith had the honors of No. 6 last week, while Calais Campbell the man this week.  Campbell faces the Packers this week, who surrender the eighth most points to opposing defensive ends.  With three sacks on 24 pressures and 21 solo tackles, Campbell is having a strong year.  That said, Campbell has registered only one sack in the past 6 games- though he has managed 16 pressures in that same span.  I’m not sure if Campbell will but up the ninth best number this week, but I expect him to perform better than Smith did last week.

Another familiar name returns to the upper end of the list as Terrell Suggs comes at No. 12 this week.  The reigning defensive player of the year is finally back at (or at least close to) full strength, which not only bodes well for the Ravens but for patient fantasy owns as well.  His opponent, the Browns, are in the middle of the pack when it comes to conceding points to defensive ends.  However, that doesn't really matter with a healthy Suggs, who will be a weekly DE1 option as long as he remains healthy.  Optimism should be flowing through the veins of Suggs’ owners moving forward.
