Highest tackles projected for Eagles/Redskins in Week 4
With two regular season weeks in the books plus four weeks of the preseason, we’re now starting to accumulate some data on home crew tendencies. The good news is we haven’t seen any anomalies from any crews. The numbers are quite consistent with what we’ve seen in recent season.
Tackles Awarded Per Opportunity
As part of charting tackles awarded over the past three seasons, I’ve also been keeping track of how many tackles each stat crew is recording per opportunity. To calculate opportunities per game, simply add up the total plays and subtract incompletions and scores and add in any returns.
While many in the IDP world think a tackle is a tackle, there’s a fairly wide range of variation in terms of how home crews record tackles across the league. The following chart shows the tackle opportunities each offense yields and defense receives each game and also gives the tackles awarded per opportunity for each home crew:
Week 3 Projected Tackle Totals
After charting and analyzing the tackle data from this season, I built a model that projects the tackle totals for each team. This information can be invaluable in making lineup decisions each week.
These projections are included in the table below. For each team, the table displays the weekly opponent (Vs.), whether they are home or away (H/A), and the projected total tackles (Total), solo tackles (Solo), assisted tackles (Asst), and combined total for both teams in the game (Gm).
