To qualify as a “sleeper”, a player must be owned in no more than 10% of public leagues on ESPN.com Fantasy Football and Yahoo Fantasy Football. These are guys who could see some work and might be useful in deeper leagues if you’re thin at a certain position or need some bye-week help. Here’s this week’s list:
Quarterback
John Skelton, Arizona Cardinals (2.8% ESPN, 4% Yahoo)
I know what you’re thinking. John Skelton? Really?? Yes, really. Here's why…
With Kevin Kolb still recovering from injury, Skelton will be getting the start against the Green Bay Packers. He should see a significant workload and will probably be playing from behind a majority of the game. He doesn’t have much of a running game to work with — Arizona running backs are averaging less than four yards per carry in their last two games – while Skelton has a 66% completion percentage over that span. Add that to the fact that Green Bay hasn’t allowed a team to rush for more than 100 yards in their last five games and I feel confident saying that Skelton will pass early and often in this game.
Green Bay’s defense is in the bottom-half of the league in passing yards allowed per game, and Skelton actually has a higher Accuracy Percentage (68.1%) than guys like Joe Flacco (67.1%) and Andrew Luck (66.9%). When under pressure, Skelton also has a higher Completion Percentage (50%) and Accuracy Percentage (63.2%) than Tom Brady (45.5%, 61.4%) and Matthew Stafford (45.3%, 59.6%). Last time I checked, Larry Fitzgerald also still plays for the Arizona Cardinals.
Wide Receivers
Golden Tate, Seattle Seahawks (3.7% ESPN, 10% Yahoo)
