Fantasy football is all about the matchups, especially when it comes to wide receivers versus corner backs. Remember when fantasy matchup analysis used to be “Team A gives up the most fantasy points to wide receivers”? Well, we’ve moved from analog to digital and now look at matchups on an individual level. Each week, I dig through the actually coverage tendencies for all 32 NFL teams and compile this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.

Week 9 matchup upgrades

Dez Bryant vs. Kansas CityThis matchup isn’t as good as it would have been two weeks ago, but Bryant is still an upgrade this week. Kansas City was giving up yards in bunches with Terrance Mitchell and Phillip Gaines on the field. The Chiefs benched those two in favor of Kenneth Acker and Steven Nelson last week. While the move seemed to help the secondary, Bryant should have no problem getting open early and often. With Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension likely to stand, expect the Cowboys to lean on the pass game. Bryant is a top-six wide receiver play this week.

Golden Tate/Marvin Jones vs. Green Bay – The Lions are coming off a 400-yard passing day against a reasonably tough Steelers secondary and get a much better matchup this week. That means good things for Tate and Jones. Tate will see his share of Damarious Randall out of the slot. Randall is allowing 71 percent of his targets to be caught this season. There’s an outside shot Jones gets a shadow from rookie Kevin King, but he’ll still see plenty of King’s coverage regardless. Through the first eight weeks of the season, King allows 2.33 yards per route covered. That ranks fourth among all projected starting corners this week.
