Fantasy football is all about the matchups, especially when it comes to wide receivers versus corner backs. Remember when fantasy matchup analysis used to be “Team A gives up the most fantasy points to wide receivers”? Well, we’ve moved from analog to digital and now look at matchups on an individual level. Each week, I dig through the actually coverage tendencies for all 32 NFL teams and compile this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.

(At the bottom, check out the highlights from the tight end matchup chart.)

Week 7 matchup upgrades

Dez Bryant vs. San Francisco – It’s a great week to have Bryant on your fantasy roster. The Cowboys return from bye and get very favorable conditions to put up numbers against the 49ers. Bryant will see primary coverage from Dontae Johnson, who surrendered a big day to T.Y. Hilton in Week 5. Bryant has the upside in this matchup to be a top-five fantasy wideout this week. Cole Beasley is also a sneaky play for those in deeper leagues or who want to get a low-owned option in DFS.

Michael Crabtree vs. Kansas City – Yes, the Chiefs do have standout corner Marcus Peters in their secondary, but he stays on his side at left corner. So Crabtree will see some Peters, but he’ll also get his share of Terrance Mitchell and Phillip Gaines. Among starting corners this week, Mitchell surrenders the most fantasy points per route, and Gaines ranks sixth in that category. This is a big-time plus matchup for Crabtree, and those willing to risk it may also want to look at Amari Cooper on Thursday night.
