The best and worst fantasy WR matchups in Week 5 based on CBs

Remember when fantasy matchup analysis used to be “Team A gives up the most fantasy points to wide receivers”? Well, we’ve moved from analog to digital and now look at matchups on an individual level. Each week, I dig through the actually coverage tendencies for all 32 NFL teams and compile this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.

(And at the bottom, check out the highlights from the tight end matchup chart.)

Week 5 matchup upgrades

Mike Evans vs. New England – Thursday night has the potential to be a big-time shootout, so make sure you get in on the action. Of all the matchups, the best belongs to Evans, who will see primary coverage from Stephon Gilmore. The former Bills corner hasn’t fared well this season, allowing 69 percent of his targets to be caught for an average of 16.8 yards per catch. Evans is this week’s top wide receiver play.

Dez Bryant vs. Green Bay – After a month of brutal matchups, Bryant is finally in the upgrade section. Two weeks ago, the Packers used rookie CB Kevin King to shadow A.J. Green. While King did an admirable job in that tall task, Green still went nuts for 111 yards and a score on 10 catches. That means good things for Bryant. King may not shadow Bryant, but he does project to be primary coverage. Bryant saw heavy volume last week with 11 targets and projects to see another healthy workload in this one. He’s a rock-sold WR1 play.
