Week 8 waiver-wire pickups and fantasy targets

A lot of fantasy football players will be looking to make up ground on the Week 8 waiver wire, as we make the turn for the home stretch of the fantasy football regular season.

Remember, we cast a wide net every week in our waiver wire advice. Below you’ll see recommendations for shallow, regular, and deep leagues. Players are listed in order of priority and the suggested auction budget percentage is in parentheses.

Keep in mind that some leagues may be more aggressive or conservative in terms of bidding, so know your league tendencies. Regardless of the size of your league, it’s suggested that you work your way down the list and prioritize the top players in your waiver claims for this week.

Shallow leagues (8-10 teams)

Quarterback

Jared Goff, LAR (7-10%) — Goff isn't setting the league on fire like fellow second-year quarterback Carson Wentz, but he's shown that he can produce solid fantasy numbers and gets a favorable second-half schedule.

Ben Roethlisberger, PIT (7-10%) — Roethlisberger hasn't posted a massive day this season, but he's trending in the right direction over the last two weeks.

Tyrod Taylor, BUF (7-10%) — Taylor continues to produce despite his lackluster receiver corps. He'll be in the QB1 conversation again this week.

Running back

Aaron Jones, GB (25-50%) — Surprisingly, Jones is still available in 34 percent of leagues. He's now in the lead in the Packers backfield and is a must-own in all formats.

Dion Lewis, NE (20-40%) — Lewis slipped through waivers in almost 80 percent of leagues last week. Don't let that happen again. He's clearly ahead of Mike Gillislee in New England.

Latavius Murray, MIN (15-30%) — Murray posted the better fantasy numbers in Week 7, but he’s still in a committee with Jerick McKinnon. Regardless, both players should be owned.

Wide receiver

Marvin Jones, DET (15-30%) — The Lions return from bye and will likely be without Golden Tate. That means good things for Jones, who is still available in 34 percent of leagues.

Josh Doctson, WAS (15-30%) — The second-year man started over Terrelle Pryor in Week 7, playing 54-of-64 snaps. Expect his role to continue to increase going forward.

Tight end

Hunter Henry, LAC (20-40%) — Roughly a third of leagues haven't received the memo that Henry is now a TE1. He's still available in 34 percent of leagues.

Regular leagues (12 teams)

Quarterback

Josh McCown, NYJ (3-5%) — Surprisingly a top-10 fantasy quarterback up to this point, McCown is coming off a strong performance against the Dolphins.
