Every week we’ll look back at the previous week’s stacks to see how we well (or poorly) we did. Obviously, I will throw excuses caveats out there for all the contrarian stacks I took a shot on. Last week, we nearly obliterated the cheap DraftKings stack featuring Philip Rivers, Tyrell Williams and Danny Woodhead. Poor Woodhead. On FanDuel, we’ll need to call on that mulligan — we stacked the Giants. Who could’ve seen Sean Payton slowing down the game by playing his defensive backs 10 yards off the ball every snap?! Our Yahoo stack was also so close to hitting — Carson Palmer was awesome, Michael Floyd lacked volume, and John Brown was… well, forget about Brown. Let’s jump right into the Week 3 picks.
FanDuel
Ryan Tannehill, QB, DeVante Parker, WR, Jay Ajayi, RB (Dolphins vs. Browns)
My favorite stack of the week across the board is actually the cheapest on FanDuel — so we’ll exploit it there. Don’t expect low ownership on this one — or any stack against the Browns’ defense going forward — but it doesn’t matter if you go contrarian outside of this stack. After all, rostering these three players won’t exactly cost you an arm and a leg. Tannehill is just the 19th-most expensive QB, Ajayi is just the 42nd-most expensive RB, and Parker is just the 45th-most expensive WR. So the base of your stock costs you a back-end QB2, a RB4 and a WR4.
The Browns tried to reboot the franchise this offseason, but there was only so much they could do. There was just no plausible way to fix the pass rush and secondary in one offseason. Losing free safety Tashaun Gipson certainly didn’t help either. The Browns’ biggest issue is their inability to generate consistent pressure. They are currently our 23rd-”best” pass-rush team overall despite matching up against a potentially suspect Ravens offensive line.
