The third preseason game is commonly referred to as the “regular-season dress rehearsal.” Starters typically play longer than during other preseason weeks and some light game-planning takes place. While opportunity remains the main ingredient in DFS lineup construction, this slate calls for a sprinkle of the kind of matchup analysis that was nearly useless during prior weeks.
Thursday night features only two games and neither boasts an abundance of appealing options. Lineups will have a lot of overlap and differentiation will be a challenge. Finding the correct balance of chalk plays (Dak Prescott, Christine Michael) and lower-owned players (Brandon Wilds, Jordan Cameron) takes on greater importance. Don’t be afraid to eat more chalk than on a typical slate.
As always, and particularly with preseason games, be sure to monitor Twitter in the hour leading up to kickoff. A last-minute inactive announcement about one player being can vault another to must-play status.
Here are your preseason DFS plays for Thursday and Friday.
Quarterbacks
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (Thursday): With no Dez Bryant (concussion) and an inclination to protect their starting quarterback, it’s hard to see the Cowboys leaving Tony Romo out there for very long in Seattle. Prescott has gone nuclear this preseason, throwing four touchdowns, running for two more, and compiling a perfect quarterback rating (158.3). If you play the two-game Thursday slate, you will want some Dak exposure.
