The best fantasy QB options to stream for Week 9

LANDOVER, MD - OCTOBER 16: Quarterback Carson Wentz #11 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks to pass the ball while teammate running back Ryan Mathews #24 blocks against free safety Will Blackmon #41 of the Washington Redskins in the first quarter at FedExField on October 16, 2016 in Landover, Maryland. What a difference a week makes. Recapping the quarterback streaming options featured in Week 8,

there simply wasn’t any payoff to be had like in Week 7 when five of the six featured streamers wound up returning QB1 value. Of Sunday’s top-12 fantasy QBs, all were owned in at least 60 percent of ESPN leagues. That’s just the way it goes sometimes.

However, looking ahead to Week 9, six more teams have a bye: Arizona, Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, New England and Washington. Those byes will take a handful of the aforementioned highly owned QBs out of the mix. On the injury front, Ben Roethlisberger (knee) and Alex Smith (head) will bear monitoring as the week progresses, while a hobbled Russell Wilson continues to leave fantasy owners in the lurch.

Week 8 Fantasy Points Fantasy Rank *PFF Passing Grade
Tyrod Taylor 18 14th 23rd
Jameis Winston 17 15th 16th
Ryan Fitzpatrick 14 17th 14th

Notes: On the plus side for Tyrod Taylor, he extended his streak of 25 or more rushing yards and 15 or more fantasy points to seven straight games since the season opener. However, he struggled with his passing accuracy and left some meat on the bone, as 11 of his 18 fantasy points came purely as a rusher… Similar to Taylor, Jameis Winston failed to connect on several deep attempts (1-of-6 on throws that traveled 20-plus yards) while facing constant pressure from Khalil Mack. Winston’s average depth of target was a league-high 12.8 yards on Sunday, and he boasts a 5:1 TD:INT ratio in two games since Tampa Bay’s bye, yet his overall fantasy output left something to be desired… While Ryan Fitzpatrick led his team to a comeback victory on Sunday and was interception-free for the third time in four games, he also became the first quarterback this season to fail to throw for multiple passing scores against the Browns… Honorable mention selection Josh McCown had a serviceable 19-point fantasy day.

Below are the most attractive options for QB streaming in Week 9, listed by ownership and start percentages from ESPN leagues as well as FanDuel salary. Deeper league options are listed in the honorable mention section.

Week 9

Carson Wentz (PHI @ NYG) – 47.8% owned/9.9% started/$6,900 FanDuel salary

The Eagles’ play-calling has gone conservative over the last couple of weeks, partly due to a shuffling offensive line and partly due to receivers who struggle to separate or make plays with any consistency. Wentz may not have attempted a single pass beyond 20 yards against Dallas, but he was Sunday’s most accurate quarterback with 202 yards on 32-of-43 passing, with six of those incompletions due to dropped passes. For the season, Wentz ranks fifth in both PFF passing grade (86.5) and adjusted completion percentage (78.3).
