There are certain weeks, like last week, where there are a bevy of defensive options to choose from for streamers. Though some options like the Titans didn’t pan out, three of the four defenses that were here last week finished among the top 12 options, including the Giants, who finished with 23 standard points.
Then there will be weeks like Week 13, where you need to search for a streaming defense. The good news is that the playoffs have already been determined in many leagues, as they typically start in Week 14. If you’re one of the teams still grinding to ensure a spot in the playoffs, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some of the defenses you should target on your waiver wire this week.
Baltimore Ravens (vs. Dolphins)
At this point in the season, we know who teams are and what they want to do. These two teams fit that bill more than others, and fortunately for streamers, the Ravens defense matches up extremely well with the Dolphins offense. What the Dolphins do well is run the ball, though even that outlook has been cloudy in recent weeks with the injuries to three of his offensive lineman. After averaging 5.9 yards per carry through the first nine weeks, Jay Ajayi has averaged just 3.8 yards per carry over the last three games. He would need all of his offensive line to get back to full health to have a chance against a Ravens defense that has been the best in the NFL against the run, allowing just 3.4 yards per carry on the year. Even better, they allow just 2.7 yards per carry at home. There has been one starting running back to run for more than 3.88 yards per carry against them, and that was way back in Week 2 when Isaiah Crowell broke a 75-yard run for a touchdown. He averaged less than three yards per carry outside of that one. So when you see that Ryan Tannehill has thrown the ball 34 times or fewer in every game since Week 3, you know they’ve been trying to limit his exposure. They won’t have a choice in Baltimore, and the Ravens are the top defensive play because of it.
