Our IDP start/sit advice uses our team total tackle projections to guide you through your weekly decisions. Tackles are the lifeblood of IDP scoring, and is the statistic above all others you want to have a firm grasp on as an IDP fantasy gamer. This is because they are one of the easier football stats to project, and also are the most frequently occurring for defensive players. This enables you to understand a player's likely scoring floor in any given week. Basing your start/sit decisions on players with the highest projected tackle totals may sound basic, but you're safeguarding yourself from overcomplicating matters (KISS — “Keep it simple, stupid”), and raising the low-water mark for your weekly score, and that's the first step to posting a higher score than your opponent.
Defensive linemen
Start: Stephon Tuitt, Pittsburgh Steelers
The Dolphins are coming under fire this season both on and off the field, and things don’t look like they’ll be taking a turn for the better in Week 6 with the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to town. With Cameron Heyward likely to miss this game (and maybe more) with a hamstring injury, Tuitt should open his account with his first sack of the year this week, making him a solid DL2 in this game. The more frustrating part for fantasy gamers is that Heyward’s absence isn’t going to really benefit any other single player, as the Steelers will use a series of players in rotation to cover. Of those guys, Ricardo Matthews is the most likely to have an impact, but I’d be hard-pressed to recommend him as more than a barrel-scraping DL5.
