New York Jets offseason wish list for fantasy

Let’s start on a positive note. The New York Jets were a surprisingly competitive 5-11 team with victories over three teams that made the playoff as they beat Jacksonville, Kansas City, and Buffalo last season. Led by 38-year-old journeyman quarterback Josh McCown, New York was 5-7 through 12 games before a broken hand ended his season.

Now for the not-so-positive. After McCown’s injury, the Jets wouldn’t win another game with Bryce Petty under center, and they missed the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. They finished with the 28th overall offense finishing 24th in passing and 19th in rushing. Offensive coordinator John Morton was fired after just one season in the Big Apple and the offense has plenty of holes to fill moving forward. While McCown has expressed an interest in continuing his career, the veteran has never played 16 games during any of his 14 seasons and is best suited to a backup role.

Three additions we want to see for fantasy

Kirk Cousins, QB: Look for the Jets to go all in on the Cousins sweepstakes in order to address their shaky QB situation. If they lose out, then bringing in Case Keenum would be a nice fall-back option, should the Vikings not bring him back.

Carlos Hyde, RB: There’s a good chance the Jets part ways with Matt Forte, as he struggled through an injury-plagued year before landing on IR prior to Week 17. Bilal Powell will turn 30 in October and the Jets need a younger option at RB. Hyde is a versatile three-down back coming off a season in which he caught a career-high 59 passes.

Jarvis Landry, WR: With legal issues looming over Robby Anderson, who led the team in receiving touchdowns with seven last season, Jermaine Kearse is the de facto No. 1 receiver for the Jets. Pilfering Landry away from division rival Miami would give whoever lines up at QB a stud receiver to target. Landry put up career highs in receptions (112) and touchdowns (nine) last year.
