With rookie drafts well underway, there are several players whose trade value will never be either higher or lower. Rookies will take up roster spots and decisions will have to be made. Whether you’re rebuilding a team and looking to swap veterans for picks or you’re a championship contender that’s just one piece away, the players below should be on the move.
Quarterback
Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins
It’s a weird time to be a Cousins dynasty owner. If you had the foresight to see what was coming two years ago, you were able to cash in. Cousins finished as a mid-low QB1, averaging 4,500 passing yards and 27 touchdowns the past two seasons. He was sixth in fantasy points per dropback in 2015 and ninth in the same category this season. He was one of only six quarterbacks to finish in the top-12 both years. Of course, that was with the help of receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, both of whom finished with 1,000 yards but left via free agency this offseason. Furthermore, Jackson was 13th and Garcon was 21st in PFF’s wide receiver rating, which grades the quarterback while throwing at said receiver. In short, Cousins looked good when throwing to Jackson and Garcon.
But now they’re gone and, in their place, free agent pickup Terrelle Pryor and 2015 first-round pick Josh Doctson. Pryor had a strong season last year, but finished just 45th in the wide receiver rating referenced above while Doctson is a complete unknown, playing all of 31 snaps last season. He does return Jamison Crowder (who finished 10th in WR rating) and All-Pro tight end Jordan Reed but, as a whole, the talent around him in 2017 might have taken a step back. Currently, Cousins’ ADP reflects his low-end QB1 numbers but he produced those numbers with two very good receivers who aren’t there anymore. Cousins owners are hopeful Pryor and Doctson can pick up the slack but it’s far from certain they will.
