You never forget your first.
I was three weeks into playing NFL DFS and I hit it big. I took first place in a 57,500-person tournament on DraftKings and instantly became obsessed.
I’ve had plenty of sweats and wins along the ride ever since, but I’ll never forget that feeling of taking down my first tournament. I want to share that feeling with you, PFF Edge and Elite subscribers, and see you guys and girls walk away as prosperous tournament winners.
Increased rake, tougher opponents, and a less cash-friendly payout structure has made consistently profiting from tournaments more difficult over the years. The goal of this article is to help provide several plays and tournament strategies in order to wade through the shark-infested waters and emerge in the green.
Quarterbacks
Week 1 was kind to us, providing many options for us to choose from in good matchups. We also have a ton of value plays, letting us construct teams in tournaments in just about any manner we choose. If paying up at the quarterback position, Drew Brees ($6,800) is a player that many will gravitate toward — and for good reason. The Saints currently have the highest implied point total of the week (29.5 points) and the Buccaneers defense ranked bottom-eight last year. Tampa Bay’s offseason improvements along the defensive line are likely going to be mitigated by our No. 6 offensive line that led the league in pass-blocking efficiency last year. Brees’ targets are all in plus-matchups against the back-seven of Tampa Bay (ranked 31st). I don’t really need to build much more of a case here for Brees, but I’ll end by saying an implied point total of 29.5 for New Orleans seems far too low.
