What is the optimal strategy for tournaments and GPPs in the Showdown slate for Super Bowl LIII? There’s just one NFL game left this year, which naturally means just one more shot in DFS and fantasy football, so you’ll want to end on a strong note.
Given that there’s just one game to choose from, we’re going to do things a little different than usual. On a one-game slate, when playing GPPs, pretty much every player is in play, so I’m not going to recommend individual players players.
Instead, I’ll build three different lineups using three completely different strategies and walk you through the thought process of each. I’m not saying these are the only viable strategies, but they are three I like that have some backing.
I also recommend checking out MVP odds and individual player prop bets — and compare those to our projections (or your own) — to see where the lines are and what the projections say.
Roster build 1: The shootout
A roster build that looks something like this will likely be the most popular of the weekend. Super Bowl LIII does have a crazy-high over/under of 56.5, after all.
The idea with a build like this is to fit as many offensive playmakers into the six roster spots as possible. This means no defenses and no kickers and only running backs with receiving chops.
It’s actually not that hard to pull off this week (sometimes it is), and you can build a solid-looking roster. Here’s an example that would likely be somewhat contrarian because it leaves $700 on the table.
