DFS guide: Week 7 in DraftKings tournaments

As we do every week, we’re back again to look at the top strategies, players, and approaches to DFS tournaments on DraftKings for Week 7 of the fantasy season.

Given DraftKings’ decision to remove the Sunday night games off the main slate, tournaments this week are rather bleak without many of the fantasy studs we tend to rely on. It’s gotten to the point where Robert Woods has entered cash game consideration. It’s an ugly week. There’s nothing wrong with scaling back volume on poor slates, but given the tools and data we have at PFF, there’s always an edge to be gained on our opponents.

Quarterback

I’m going to stick to the main slate here, foregoing the juicy fantasy matchups between ATL-NE and WAS-PHI. There’s really only a couple quarterbacks I want to pursue, so this should be easy.

Drew Brees ($7,600) is the most expensive quarterback on the slate, but draws a very favorable matchup against the Packer’s secondary. Their starting trio of cornerbacks — Damarious Randall, Kevin King, and Davon House — all rank among our bottom-25 cornerbacks this year. Every time Brees drops back to pass, he’s going to be looking at a plus matchup for his receivers. That could spell trouble for Green Bay, as Brees has thrown for multiple passing touchdowns in all but one game this year. Brees also gets back some major help along the offensive line in tackle Terron Armstead. Last year, Armstead was one of our top-10 pass-blocking tackles and will be a welcome addition back into the lineup, raising both the floor and ceiling of Brees.

If paying up at quarterback, it wouldn’t surprise me to see more people pivot to Dak Prescott ($7,300) and take the $300 savings. Prescott draws another great matchup against a trio of cornerbacks that are also all among our bottom-25 corners. Prescott has been lights out lately, averaging 25.75 DK points over this last three outings, scoring a combined 10 total touchdowns. Vegas projects the Cowboys to score 26.25 fantasy points in this one, as one of the highest scoring games of the week. Cowboys stacks could certainly be in play here.
