I always try to be right, but alas, I’m not. This is my weekly look at DFS fades for fantasy purposes, and I suggested you fade Deshaun Watson in cash games last week. That obviously ended up being a terrible call. But let this be a lesson: When a player is considered a cash game fade, but they have demonstrated an immense ceiling, that player often makes for a great GPP play, as their ownership will be extremely low.
That’s my spin on making a bad thing sound good, but we’ll aim for some better fades this week. As usual, this article aims to help you decide which players to avoid, whether it be based on price, matchup, or a combination of the two. Here are a handful of players I’ll be fading in Week 9.
Note: There’s always a case to be made for playing any player in tournaments. This list of “fades” is cash game focused, but most of these players can be avoided in tournaments as well. Keep in mind, however, that they might be good contrarian GPP plays because of their tough matchups and/or other issues making them “fade” candidates.
Quarterbacks
Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals
Do not play Dalton this week. He’s going on the road to face a Jaguars defense that has given up just four passing touchdowns all year.
Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans
Mariota is always in play for GPPs given his high ceiling, but he’s an easy fade in cash for me this week. Outside of getting lit up by Blake Bortles in London, the Ravens have been stout against the pass, giving up just four passing scores in their other seven games, including no more than one in any game.
