Let’s start with the obvious: Week 3 looks ugly on paper.
While Week 2 provided some legitimately good games, Week 3’s best game is … Seahawks-Titans? Falcons-Lions?
Whatever. Football is back and we’re happy. But the lack of can’t-miss games this week makes it a bit harder to find players to lock into your lineups, which naturally makes it a bit harder to find players to avoid. Everyone sort of seems “on the table” this week.
But that’s not the case. Here are a handful of players I’ll be fading this week.
Note: There’s always a case to be made for playing any player in tournaments. This list of “fades” is cash game focused, but most of these players can be avoided in tournaments as well.
Quarterbacks
Tom Brady, New England Patriots
The 40-year-old Brady threw for 447 yards and three touchdowns against the abysmal New Orleans Saints last week, but he won’t repeat those numbers against the stingier Houston Texans defense. The Texans rank fifth in pass defense — though to be fair, they have only played against Blake Bortles and Andy Dalton so far. Brady is the most expensive quarterback, and I’ll simply be looking elsewhere. He has struggled against this defense at times.
If you’re looking for a quarterback on the Thursday-Sunday morning slate, look elsewhere. The Jaguars defense is legit, and they have given up just 379 passing yards and two scores through two games, while quarterbacks have completed just 54 percent of their passes against this unit. For his part, Flacco is averaging just 11.71 FanDuel PPG — worse than Mike Glennon.
