Week 10 DFS fades and players to avoid
Whether you’re still playing in your season-long league or completely out of the playoff race and you’re already thinking about next year, daily fantasy will still be here for you. Waiting to pick you up while you are down, waiting to help you feel alive again. That’s the beauty of DFS — you get a do-over every week.
Last week was a rough one, as a lot of the players who we expected to fail did not. But one week doesn’t change the process, and it shouldn’t change your stance on certain players when they are in a tough matchup. When coming here to the DFS Fades of the Week, you’re looking for players to potentially scratch off your sheet, and that’s precisely what we’re going to find. Not only will you have the names, but you’ll have the process of why I got there.
Blake Bortles, Jaguars (vs. Texans)
It may seem like a good idea to play Bortles and be “contrarian” because Bortles still gets a lot of garbage time points, and because of that, he’s totaled a massive 55.16 DraftKings points over the last two weeks. Because of that, he’ll likely be owned more than he should, even in a tough matchup against the Texans. Just a few weeks back, Matthew Stafford was in this column when playing the Texans, despite the popular opinion that he was a solid DFS play. Bortles has completed just 59 percent of his passes this year, and that’s a real issue when playing against a defense whose opponents average just 30.3 pass attempts per game. That’s the lowest in the NFL by a long shot, as the next closest team sits at 33.0 attempts per game. When looking at Bortles’ game logs, you’ll quickly realize that there have been just two games in which he totaled fewer than 38 pass attempts. In those games, he’s totaled just 478 yards combined and three touchdowns, which amounts to an average of just 15 fantasy points. We haven’t even gotten into the conversation that the Texans have yet to allow a quarterback to throw for more than 271 yards, and that they’ve allowed just two quarterbacks to eclipse 15 fantasy points. Bortles isn’t even a contrarian option this week.
