Buffalo Bills offseason wish list for fantasy

The Buffalo Bills went 9-7 in the 2017 season and lost in the Wild Card round against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team exceeded expectations and achieved those results via a strong rushing attack and by minimizing turnovers.

Despite the success, the team continues to be slow to commit to Tyrod Taylor as a long-term solution at quarterback. Taylor is under contract for one more season and will cost over $8 million in dead cap if he’s cut. The front office made some small moves to try to fortify the passing attack around him, including bringing in Jordan Matthews and Kelvin Benjamin via trade and adding Zay Jones with an early draft pick. The group never gelled, and scoring was a big problem. The Bills ranked 22nd in team scoring in 2017 with under 19 points per game; they followed that performance up by scoring just 3 points in their playoff loss.

Three additions we want to see for fantasy

First-round QB: The Bills own two first-round picks (21, 22) thanks to a trade with Kansas City during the 2017 NFL Draft. Most early mocks are showing up to four quarterbacks going in the first round this year. The Bills have the ammo to trade up and get their long-term solution.

Jerick McKinnon, RB: The Bills have built a strong rushing attack around the ageless, shifty wonder in LeSean McCoy. McKinnon would be a very interesting change-of-pace piece in Buffalo and there is some overlap of skillsets with McCoy. A dependable 1B in a high-volume rushing offense is a growing need in the league and McKinnon could also prove to be a suitable long-term replacement.

Paul Richardson, WR: It’s difficult to envision the Bills chasing the premier free agent wide receivers (or the premier wide receivers being interested in signing there), but a tier-two signing is desperately needed. The Bills have several potential chain-movers in Benjamin and Jones, but Richardson would add a much-needed downfield threat to the mix. He ranked 18th in deep receiving yards (296) and tied for 10th in deep receiving touchdowns (3) in 2017.
